The active travel Western Road scheme is Brighton has had its TRO’s opened for comments. The Western Road scheme mostly includes changes to the realm of the area, rather than restricting traffic to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists. The improved crossings do not require TROs as there is no “crossing controlled area”, although blocking of the crossings is still prohibited under the Traffic Management Act 2004.

The changes that do require a Traffic Restriction Order (TRO) are to open Castle Street & Spring Street to bicycles. Currently they prohibit all traffic from entering or exiting Western Road. The other change is to the bus lanes & gates at the junction with Dyke Road. This is to make the layout easier to understand by moving the restrictions to the clocktower junction.
