The shared cycle/footway besides Ditchling Road from Old Boat Corner to the edge of the built up area at Woodbourne Avenue is due to be widened and resurfaced with asphalt. The current path was installed in 2014 with a fine gravel surface, while lasting longer than the Falmer Road cycle path, it is not suitable for all bicycles & its 2m width can result in a hostile environment for users.
The £300,000 scheme being funded by the B&H’s Carbon Neutral Fund will see the path widened to 3m and surfaced with asphalt allowing all bicycles to use it with ease, and reduce conflicts between users.
Works will start in the 28th February and should take 4 months to complete, to be open by the start of August.
