On the 25th August, Gatwick Airport Limited (GAL) announced that a public consultation will begin on the 9th September and last for 9 weeks. The scheme will allow the Northern runway which is currently only used in emergencies, to be used for parallel take offs in addition to the main runway.

The scheme would see the current Northern runway have its centre line moved by 12 meters to meet international standards. It is hoped that the changes would increase the passenger capacity to about 75 million by 2038. In addition to runway changes, there would also be changes to airport access, highways and environmental mitigation.

The plans will be available at https://www.gatwickairport.com/futureplans on the 9th September.
