In October & November 2023 it is proposed that the Junction of the A273 and B2112 at the Village of Clayton will have some modifications and adjustments to speed limits to improve safety at the dangerous and congested junction.
The existing speed limit through the junction is 50mph, and will be lowered to 30mph. Although compliance with this speed limit may be lacking due to its position at the bottom of the Downs.
In addition to the lower speed limit, additional crossing refuges would be provided across the A273 and B2112 to improve pedestrian safety at the junction, which is a common walking and cycling route utilising Underhill Lane and New Way Lane. The gate into the recreation ground would also be relocated to be next to the new pedestrian crossing.
